8 Mercedes AMG GT R third fastest at Grand Tour test track

The Grand Tour Season 2 has started and this week's second episode "The Falls Guys" finally featured timed test at the Grand Tour Eboladrome.

The car to take honors as being first with recorded lap time in new series and with the new (female) test driver is Mercedes AMG GT-R.

AMG GT R, with a blank space and not a dash "-" between the T and R, is fastest version of the Mercedes AMG GT 2 door front engined sports coupe. It used to be fastest rear wheel drive car around Nürburgring, until, just recently, Porsche 911 GT2 RS beat it and everything else, including four-wheel-drives which used to dominate at Nürburgring.

Interestingly, Jeremy Clarkson wasn't too fussed about AMG GT R track credentials and said he would rather prefer more old-school AMG with less traction at the rear and more capacity for destroying tyres.

The 720S just ran 1:17.9 but on PZero Corsa, not Trofeo R like 650S.

What happened? McLaren ran out of Super Trofeos? Gotta watch it, downloading right now...

They always use Corsas with the 720S. Never used Trofeo Rs on it yet.

It's called P Zero Trofeo R.

Probably the mind was elsewhere and the guy mixed up the P Zero Trofeos with the Gallardo's/Huracán's racer. :)

P.S. Who else thinks they have some sort of product placement going on with JetBlue airlines in the Ford GT vs plane segment? They mentioned JetBlue by name several times, had these phone calls with Jeremy with them showing also their logo on dashboard monitor, and nice outside shots of JetBlue plane taking off and in the air...

I think that's the new "Amazon way" of sustaining budget and turning profit from the show. I remember in first season opener they had this huge extravaganza Ford Mustang intro which really did look like an over-the-top ad.

With BBC at least they didn't have to do that... only thing wrong with BBC was many ppl butthurt about controversial things Jeremy said sending complaint letters.
