Great to hear from you, Fastest Laps.
I'm reading now on the Car and Driver website that the next M5 will have 735 hp.
That's the same horsepower as the current BMW XM Label Red.
Let's bring it on!

F90 was dominant during its time (maybe somewhat rivaled only by maxed out Panamera Turbo S and that AMG CLS thing that the russian youtuber burned down on live stream, can't remember the model name lol). This new generation will have to fight off very very fast electric sedans.
FastestLaps 1w ago
Certainly, BMW would have to screw up big time, to make it slower than competition from Mercedes hybrids or long-since-irrelevant Audi RS6.

Oh No! It's time to have all our hearts broken again.
The BMW M5 is no more.
Autocar has completely removed every model of the M5 from its price list at the back of their magazine.
But, and it's a big "but".
A completely new M5 is due to be launched soon. Phew!

So what's next for the current BMW M5's 2024 replacement? GO M!
Quote>"The second electrified BMW M car will arrive in 2024 and will bear the M5 name. Following the path of the BMW XM, the next-generation G90 M5 will be introduced with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The tech is imported from the XM and will likely arrive with different power outputs. We’ve already learned that the XM luxury SUV can produce from 650 to 750 horsepower, so several variants of the M5 are likely to adopt the same power strategy."

Twin turbocharged V8 with hybrid assistance! Upto 750hp in the highest, possibly Competition and "CS" specifications! Performance would be a step up if accurate!🤓

The M5 DOES NOT make 553 "true" pound-feet of torque even if it was NOT underrated!! The reason why BMW advertised it like that was because it uses a ZF 8HP transmission that's electronically limited to making that amount of torque.
The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is also underrated like that at 538 lb-ft.
Similar displacement twin-turbo V8s that use multi-/wet-clutch transmissions like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and Mercedes-AMG (E/GT)63S cars are advertised at 627 to 664 lb-ft because their transmissions are designed to be easy to manage crack full torque outputs with - they are designed with off-the-line acceleration in mind.
Cadillac CT6-V made 640 lb-ft without a hassle, but that's because its "traditional automatic" was a derivative of one used in the Camaro ZL1, which basically was designed to be a drag car.

My estimated lap times
Motor Trend Figure-8: 23.0 sec @ 0.94 G
Nürburgring Nordschleife: 7:33
Top Gear Test Track (Power Lap): 1:18
How I estimated these lap times
FIGURE-8:
((900/(30/21)x(2075x2.20462262))/0.014)/707))x.79
This is one of the rare situations where static friction is not counted, but the maximum grip is supposed to be 1.44 G (which is insanely optimistic for any sedan, let alone an AWD one). Instead, I used the 79% maximum slope angle, substituted for 0.79 (which is 79 divided by 100).
Its actual grip is 1.19 G x 0.79 = 0.94 G.
NORDSCHLEIFE:
((20600m/(300km/h/(232m*0.3048m))x(2075kg/707hp)/1.44g)x0.0095
POWER LAP:
((4410lb+75kg)/707hp)x((1.75mi)x12)x.79x.75

Funny thing is even if you include rollout the 60-100mph time still looks unimpressive compared to the 0-60, and it's not because of the AWD system. First, it's heavy. Second, it's only 625x1.1=687 hp (actual even).
A Charger Hellcat Redeye may have 120 more metric ponies on top, but even with the few extra hundred pounds, it's RWD so theoretically it contains the few less percent (I don't know how else to say this) in the drivetrain loss. Both cars share technically the same ZF 8HP transmission.

Quote>"The results show a surprising peak of 617 horsepower and 606 lb-ft of torque AT THE WHEELS."
Now the test car was FOUR WHEEL DRIVE? Transmission losses we've been using are around 11% for rear wheel drive how much more will it be for 4 wheel drive? 15%? Well it's a start?
617x15%= 709.55hp
606x15%= 696.9lbs/ft!
They've learnt a trick from McLaren or more correctly Ricardo. Make the power you quote at the wheels the power you quote at the engine!
Respect BMW quite the M Power hour!
