GSX Stage 2 competition

Super 8,
Your information is good up until you state the Factory assembled 15 Stage 2 units. The Factory never produced ANY Stage 2 cars. All of them were only dealer installed packages. The closest the factory ever came to producing one was when Denny Manner (the chief engineer on the Stage 2 project) sent the prototype Stage 2 heads and package to Reynolds Buick for testing on the mule car which was campaigned as the Kenne-Bell car. The factory produced about 75 pairs of these heads and that was it. There are three prominent Stage 2's with a race history. The Reynolds car, the Jones/Benisek car and the Jim Turner car. Denny states that the factory may or may not have produced a Stage 2 GSX for testing which may or may not have survived. It all just adds to the mystic history of the awesome car :)

Not exactly true. There were 2 factory test vehicles under Denny's command. I've got documentation, and also worked at Buick Engineering on Buick V6 Stage development, and on the Indy V6 program. Also, I grew up in Flint MI, and my father was Mfg. Engineer in the foundry and oversaw casting on the Stage 2 V8 heads.

There is little documentation about the 12 Stage 2 cars that were sold. One was campaigned by Kenne-Bell/Reynolds Buick and the other was known as the Jones-Benisek car. The Jones/Benisek car is known to have been delivered as a Stage 1 car with all the Stage 2 components in the trunk in GM boxes. Stage 2 package included special D- Port exhaust port Stage 2 heads, matching Kustom brand headers, a radical cam, high compression forged pistons, Edelbrock B4B aluminum intake, Holley carburetor, and other equipment for racing. Few Stage 2s were ever used on the street and Buick only ever factory assembled 15 Stage 2 test units.

The dealer installation of GSX but with optional 3.42 final which is rare to see and also it might be the only car that fitted with Muncie M22 Rock Crusher wide ratio with 3.42 final because Muncie M20 can't handle such a big torque close to 500 ft-lbs. Stage 2 is one of the powerful engine in 1970 considering the power can reach 400 Hp in net figures. The milder Stage 1 version has 360 net according to wikipedia which mean same as gross rating power.
