In this case where cost of fuel doesn't matter, the number one advantage probably is increased range. Also the strategic zombie apocalypse advantage of diesel fuel being storable and more "energy dense", less dangerous (not flammable) etc. :D

Finally Mercedes has created a new 6 cylinder diesel engine.
It's superior than Audi's and BMW's ~3 liters biturbo diesel engines:
Audi: 320 PS @3900-4600, 650 Nm @1400-2800
BMW: 320 PS @4400, 680 Nm @1750-2250
Mercedes: 340 PS @3600-4400, 700 Nm @1200-3200(!)
There is also a detuned version (still biturbo) with 286 PS and 600 Nm.
The facelifted S-Class only available with AWD.

Inline 6? OMG that would be great if BMW was not the only manufacturer making inline 6 engines these days.

The 286 PS also is also biturbo. Currently there is no single turbo version of this new engine.
