This Ibiza introduced us to power we have never seen before. With 180 horsepower and a turbocharger it offered significantly better performance than even the best hot hatches from the 90s, while also accelerating as quickly as the later Golf 5 GTI. 7.2 seconds 0-100 and just about 36 seconds 0-200 with a top speed of over 225kph made this a very interesting pocket rocket for its time

Ibiza Cupra R 1.8 competition

Basically they started out being owned by Fiat. The Mk1 was still based on the Fiat, but received engines tuned by Porsche. The Mk2 on the other hand was on the platform of the Polo III but got the engines from the Golf III GTI. Since they were not exactly the best and the Ibiza was almost as heavy as the Golf III they never really performed that much better. But this Cupra R brought somw change.
