Maybe the RS Focus engine cracked in the process of putting a lap time down.

Now 7 track comparisons and the score now 4-3 to the Type R

Still love my Type R!

'your' should be 'you're' BR2+. Sorry to be a pedant....
I'm not basing hot hatch credibility SOLELY on MPG, but it has to count, or just buy a supercar. A hot hatch has to take 4 or 5 adults too. These are things defining a hot hatch. Affordability and looks which are at least a little headturning. The Honda does over 30 mpg, while the RS is 25, AND in these 6 track battles, the Honda wins 4!

I get the everyday drivability aspect. That's like the whole point or else get straight up sports cars. But the new mega hatches are no longer cheap cars, so If you were on a budget, you wouldn't get these cars to begin with.

However now that you mention it. If every 100 miles you burn an extra gallon, after 100k miles, that would be 1000 more gallons!
So far no journalist has ever mentioned this

.....Your basing a hot hatch's credibility on it MPG?......

User avatar

Nick Harry  8y ago

Real mega hatch/hot hatch comparisons should only be valid when consumption is 30+ mpg. The Focus is slightly cheating by that score. 21 mpg compared with 32 !! Hot hatches have to have 30+ mpg/looks/practicality/room for 5 plus luggage- in my opinion-as well as legendary track performance.

Don't get me wrong i'm pretty sure it will be fun indeed.

For the performance part we will see later when it gets track tested.

The new focus RS is in a whole nother league in terms of fun. Practical with 5 doors as oppose to 3. 360+hp.

You're already writing this car not only being slower but also "worst"

Nice...

My bad. Not sure comparing 4WD with FWD would be very smart and even then... Golf R is not doing better track times than Seat Cupra 280.
The new Focus will be even heavier.

But fastestlaps biased straight line calculation will make it win, I'll give you that lol

Lmao...!

BR2+  9y ago

...Your comparing the 8 year old last generation Focus......................

User avatar

Nixou  9y ago

Well.. First off I have friends having both the old MRS 250 and the Focus RS and we made some comparisons. Focus RS is nose heavy, cornering wise feels quite worse than the MRS. 50 hp difference do not really translate performance wise. And we are not even talking about the better trophy version which only could compare with the Cupra 280 and Type R.
Those 3 being the fastest FWD on every track tested.
Then you have reviews. Here one example

Finally i'm pretty sure that almost every track times involving either Trophy R, Type R, Cupra 280 and Focus RS has the focus RS being behind any of the others.

User avatar

saxy  9y ago

those cars are well ahead of the focus RS? and how do you know that?

User avatar

Nixou  9y ago

True dat, however the Type R (as well as Seat Cupra 280 and Megane RS trophy R) are still well ahead of Focus RS by quite some difference.

...Why do people even bother to say anything about its Ring time when the thing wasnt even legit?..

User avatar

Nick Harry  9y ago

A bit early to say 'by a huge margin' with only one item of data , surely. The Type R has set a very impressive Nurburgring time, after all!
