I bought a 1970 Cougar 429CJ. According to the dealership 2 were ordered and the one ordered thru their dealership was not picked up. To change the spark plugs the engine had to be jack up. This was not an eliminator. It had Hurst linkage, 4 speed. The car was black, with black interior and a black vinyl roof. The engine was built for NASCAR Mercury Monterey.

There were 2 Boss 429 Cougars built for drag racers Dyno Don Nicholson and Fast Eddie Schartman. A 3rd one was built for demo / magazine test purposes. All three were built in 1969 and none of them had the Eliminator Option.
There were NO Boss 429 Cougars built in 1970. The car in the picture is a Competition Orange 1970 Eliminator with a 428 Super Cobra-Jet / C6 Automatic drivetrain.
